Lesson#1
To talk about completed actions in the past in spoken German, you often use the perfect tense. For most verbs, this is formed with the present tense of 'haben' and a past participle at the end of the sentence. For example, 'Ich lerne Deutsch' means 'I am learning German', but 'Ich habe Deutsch gelernt' means 'I have learned German'.
Lesson#2
Let's look at how to form the past participle. For many regular verbs, like 'machen' meaning 'to make', you add 'G E' to the beginning and 'T' to the end of the stem. So, 'machen' becomes 'gemacht'.
Quiz#3
How do you say 'I have made a coffee' in German?

Ich habe einen Kaffee gemacht.

Lesson#4
The same pattern applies to 'kochen', meaning 'to cook'. The past participle is 'gekocht'.
Quiz#5
Translate into German: 'He has cooked the soup.'

Er hat die Suppe gekocht.

Lesson#6
For verbs whose stem ends in 'T' or 'D', like 'arbeiten' meaning 'to work', you add an extra 'e' before the final 't' to make it easier to pronounce. So the past participle is 'gearbeitet'.
