'Deshalb' connects two main clauses, and the verb comes directly after it. For example: 'Ich bin müde. Deshalb gehe ich ins Bett.' which means 'I am tired. Therefore, I am going to bed.'

A very common word that means the same as 'deshalb' is 'deswegen'. You can use it in exactly the same way to mean 'that's why' or 'for that reason'. For example: 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Deswegen nehme ich eine Tablette.' which means 'I have a headache. That's why I'm taking a pill.'
