A lone person swimming gracefully in the still, misty waters of a serene lake in the Bavarian Alps during early morning, surrounded by vibrant autumn foliage. There is a subtle hint of frost on the distant shore, emphasizing the cold, yet the swimmer moves with determination. Dramatic, wide-angle photograph with soft, diffused light.

Lesson#1
In this deck, you'll learn how to connect your ideas in German. Instead of just using simple sentences, you'll learn to show consequence and contrast, which will make your speech sound much more natural.
Lesson#2
Let's start with showing a consequence. When one thing happens because of another, you can use the word 'deshalb'. It means 'therefore' or 'that's why'. 'Deshalb' connects two main clauses, and the verb comes directly after it. For example: 'Ich bin müde. Deshalb gehe ich ins Bett.' which means 'I am tired. Therefore, I am going to bed.'
Quiz#3
Translate into German: 'It is raining. That's why I am staying at home.'

Es regnet. Deshalb bleibe ich zu Hause.

Quiz#4
Translate into German: 'My car is broken. Therefore, I am taking the bus.'

Mein Auto ist kaputt. Deshalb nehme ich den Bus.

Lesson#5
A very common word that means the same as 'deshalb' is 'deswegen'. You can use it in exactly the same way to mean 'that's why' or 'for that reason'. For example: 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Deswegen nehme ich eine Tablette.' which means 'I have a headache. That's why I'm taking a pill.'
Quiz#6
Translate into German: 'I am hungry. That's why I am eating a pizza.'

Ich habe Hunger. Deswegen esse ich eine Pizza.
