Lesson#1
Welcome to Core Number Skills for GCSE Maths. This deck will build your confidence with the absolute fundamentals: the order of operations, working with negative numbers, decimals, and fractions. Mastering these skills is essential for success in every other topic.
Lesson#2
When you see a calculation with multiple steps, like 2 plus 3 times 4, how do you know what to do first? We follow a set of rules called the order of operations, often remembered by the acronym BIDMAS. This ensures everyone gets the same answer from the same calculation.
Lesson#3
BIDMAS stands for Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. This is the order you must follow. First, work out anything inside Brackets. Then, calculate any Indices, which are powers or roots.
Quiz#4
In the order of operations, what does the B in BIDMAS stand for?

Brackets

Quiz#5
In the order of operations, what does the I in BIDMAS stand for?

Indices

Lesson#6
Next in BIDMAS are Division and Multiplication. These two have equal priority, so you just work them out from left to right as they appear in the sum. The same rule applies to the final pair: Addition and Subtraction.
