Welcome to GCSE Maths. In this deck, we'll cover the fundamentals of numbers: place value and ordering. You'll learn how to read and understand the value of digits in any number, whether it's a whole number or a decimal. We'll also cover how to compare and order positive and negative numbers, and correctly use symbols for 'less than' and 'greater than'.
Lesson#2
Let's start with place value. Every digit in a number has a place value, which tells you how much it's worth. Think about the number 273. The 3 is in the units place, so it's just worth 3. The 7 is in the tens place, so it's worth 70. And the 2 is in the hundreds place, so it's worth 200.

Lesson#6
Place value also works for numbers after a decimal point. The first digit after the decimal point is in the tenths place. The next is in the hundredths place, and then the thousandths place, and so on. So in the number zero point four five, the 4 is worth four tenths, and the 5 is worth five hundredths.
