Lesson#4
After you eat a meal rich in carbohydrates, your blood glucose level rises. The pancreas detects this increase and responds by releasing a hormone called insulin. Insulin travels in the bloodstream and signals to cells, particularly in the liver and muscles, to take up glucose from the blood.

Once inside the liver and muscle cells, insulin causes the glucose to be converted into a larger, insoluble carbohydrate called glycogen. This glycogen is then stored in the cells, effectively removing the excess glucose from the blood and bringing the concentration back down to its normal level.
