Lesson#1
In this deck, we'll explore how the communists, led by Mao Zedong, took control of China. We'll start with the brutal Civil War against the Nationalists from 1945 to 1949, examining why the communists won. Then, we'll see how they consolidated their power, using political campaigns and terror, and look at the Hundred Flowers campaign, where a brief moment of free speech ended in a harsh crackdown.
Lesson#2
After the end of World War Two in 1945, China was plunged into a civil war. Two main groups fought for control. On one side were the Nationalists, known as the Guomindang, led by Chiang Kai-shek. On the other were the Chinese Communist Party, or CCP, led by Mao Zedong. The Guomindang were the official government and had international recognition, but the CCP had strong support in the countryside.

Lesson#6
At the start of the war, the Guomindang seemed much stronger.
