Welcome to bearings. Bearings are a precise way of describing a direction using angles. They are commonly used in navigation by pilots and ship captains to make sure they are heading the right way. In this deck, we'll learn the three essential rules for bearings.
Lesson#2
The first and most important rule of bearings is that you always measure from the North line. Imagine a compass; the North line is the line pointing directly upwards, or North, from your current position.

The second rule is that you always measure the angle in a clockwise direction. So, starting from the North line, you turn to the right, or clockwise, until you are facing your destination.

The third rule is that bearings must always be written as a three-figure number. This is to avoid any confusion. For example, an angle of 50 degrees would be written as 050. An angle of 7 degrees would be written as 007.
