The main principle for rearranging formulae is to keep the equation balanced. Whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other. To isolate a variable, we use 'inverse operations' to undo everything that's been done to it. Think of it as unwrapping a present, one layer at a time.

Let's start with a simple example. In the formula y equals x plus 5, 'y' is the subject. To make 'x' the subject, we need to get it on its own. Since 5 is being added to x, we do the inverse: we subtract 5 from both sides. This gives us y minus 5 equals x.
