A vibrant close-up photograph of a person's hand pointing to a beautiful, old leather-bound book on a stall at a bustling outdoor Italian market. Other traditional Italian crafts, fresh produce, and a blur of market-goers fill the background, emphasizing selection and ownership in a warm, inviting atmosphere, composed for a 3:2 landscape frame.

Lesson#1
In conversations, we don't always repeat the full noun. This deck will teach you how to refer to people and things more naturally in German using demonstrative and indefinite pronouns. You'll learn how to say things like 'this one', 'that one', 'someone', or 'everything'.
Lesson#2
To point to something that has just been mentioned, you can use the definite articles 'der', 'die', or 'das' as pronouns. This is like saying 'that one' in English. For example, if someone asks 'Welchen Mantel findest du schön?', meaning 'Which coat do you find nice?', you can reply 'Den da', meaning 'That one there'.
Quiz#3
How do you say 'I'll take that one' in German, referring to a masculine object?

Ich nehme den.

Quiz#4
How do you say 'We'll take that one' in German, referring to a feminine object?

Wir nehmen die.

Quiz#5
How do you say 'I'm reading that one' in German, referring to a neuter object?

Ich lese das.

Lesson#6
To be more specific and say 'this one' or 'this particular one', you can use the 'dies-' forms. These words take the same endings as definite articles. For example, 'dieser' for masculine nouns in the nominative, 'diese' for feminine, and 'dieses' for neuter. For instance, 'Dieser Weg ist kürzer' means 'This path is shorter'.
