Let's start with converting a fraction to a decimal. A fraction is really just a division. The line in a fraction means 'divide by'. So, to turn any fraction into a decimal, you divide the top number, the numerator, by the bottom number, the denominator.

Once you have a decimal, converting it to a percentage is straightforward. The phrase 'per cent' means 'out of one hundred'. So, to change a decimal to a percentage, you simply multiply it by one hundred.
