Here, we'll revisit the imperfect tense, for describing past situations, and introduce the pluperfect tense, which is used for actions that happened even further back in the past.

First, let's review the imperfect tense, also known as the preterite. This tense is often used in written German, like in stories, to describe ongoing situations, repeated actions, or what someone 'used to do'. For example, 'Ich wohnte in Berlin' means 'I lived' or 'I used to live in Berlin'.
