Lesson#1
In this deck, we'll explore one of the biggest challenges facing humanity: food security. We'll look at what food security means, the factors that threaten it, and how modern science and farming are trying to feed a growing global population. We'll cover intensive farming, the importance of sustainable fishing, and how biotechnology can create new food sources like mycoprotein.
Lesson#2
So, what exactly is food security? It's defined as having enough food that is safe and nutritious for everyone to be healthy and active. It's not just about having food available; it's also about people being able to access it and use it properly. When any of these conditions aren't met, we have food insecurity.
Quiz#3
What is the term for having access to enough safe and nutritious food to stay healthy and active?

Food security

Lesson#4
Several biological factors can threaten food security. A major one is the increasing global population, which simply means more mouths to feed. Diets are also changing, particularly in wealthier nations, with a higher demand for meat and fish, which puts a strain on resources. New pests and pathogens can wipe out crops and livestock, while environmental changes like global warming can lead to droughts or floods, destroying farmland. Finally, conflicts can disrupt farming and prevent food from being distributed.
Quiz#5
What is a major factor related to the human population that threatens global food security?

Increasing birth rate

Quiz#6
What biological threats can destroy crops and livestock, thus threatening food security?

New pests and pathogens
